Successful reunion of a Pantaenius client and his yacht

February 05, 2016

On Friday 14th January 2016 a Pantaenius client reported that his vessel was missing from its usual mooring in Holyhead Marina.

He was advised by marina staff that the vessel left over a week previously. A theft was notified to the Police and with permissions granted, a photograph of the vessel was emailed by marina staff to harbours and marinas on the east coast of Ireland and the west coast of England, Scotland and Wales.

Thankfully, at Malahide Marina near Dublin, berth holder and Irish Representative for Trans Ocean (website link below), Ludwig Ehling spotted the vessel, and thought it seemed strange to see a visiting vessel, especially at the time of year. The vessel’s original name had by now been changed. Later that day Ludwig checked the AFLOAT.ie website and saw an alert for the yacht believed to be stolen and reported the sighting.

Thanks to Ludwig’s vigilance and the help of our contacts in the sailing world, Pantaenius has successfully reunited an owner with his yacht. Fiona Williams, our Communications Supervisor, met with Ludwig in Ireland to present him with a token of our gratitude from the renowned Plymouth Gin Distillery. (Photo attached).
